FAQs
Depending on your results, restoring low iron levels can take up to 6 months. That’s why it can be helpful to test regularly to monitor your progress.
If you have too much iron in your body, it gets stored in organs like your liver, heart and pancreas. This build-up of iron can cause heart problems, joint pain and liver disease. Luckily, there are treatments that can reduce the amount of iron in your body and lessen the risk of long-term damage.
If your iron levels are below the normal range, you may be at risk of iron-deficiency anaemia. Symptoms of iron-deficiency anaemia include:
- tiredness
- lack of energy
- headaches
- difficulty concentrating
- nail problems
- restless legs
If our test finds your iron levels are too low, we'll let you know right away and recommend you make an appointment with your GP.
Iron is important in making red blood cells which carry oxygen around your body. It also helps keep your muscles healthy, supports your immune system and helps your organs work properly. The Iron Blood Test measures your iron levels, iron stores and indicates inflammation levels.
Talk to your doctor before taking this test. Being pregnant can have a noticeable impact on your results, so make sure to check in with your GP first.
Intended use
These blood tests are designed for adults aged 18 and over, and are unsuitable for children. Please note that these blood tests cannot treat or diagnose medical conditions. As Holland & Barrett don’t collect any data about your medical history, you must interpret the significance of your results with caution. Be aware that medical conditions, medications, or other aspects of your health can affect your test results. These tests do not replace seeking medical advice and assessment, and if you have an abnormal test result, you should always seek appropriate advice from a trained health professional.
