FAQs
If your vitamin D levels are low, you may need more sun exposure, your body may not absorb vitamin D efficiently, or you may have kidney issues. High vitamin D levels can be a sign of over-supplementation from pills or diet or a result of certain medical conditions.
When you have low vitamin B12 levels, you may get the following symptoms:
- tiredness
- headaches
- pale skin
- low mood
Symptoms of low vitamin D include:
- tiredness
- sleep difficulties
- aches and pains
- feeling generally unwell
- getting sick more easily
You may also struggle with sharp pains and general weakness with more severe cases of vitamin D deficiency.
Vitamin D is made naturally in your skin through sunlight exposure. That’s why it’s best to check your levels during cooler seasons when you’re getting less sunshine than in summer. You could also be at risk of deficiency if you wear high-coverage clothing regularly. As many as 1 in 5 UK adults are deficient in vitamin D, so it’s a good health move to check your levels regularly.
Symptoms of folate deficiency include:
- extreme tiredness
- pins and needles
- muscle weakness
- unclear vision
Ensuring you’re getting enough folate is essential when you're pregnant, as sufficient levels help prevent congenital disabilities.
Talk to your doctor before taking this test. Being pregnant can have a noticeable impact on your results, so make sure to check in with your GP first.
Intended use
These blood tests are designed for adults aged 18 and over, and are unsuitable for children. Please note that these blood tests cannot treat or diagnose medical conditions. As Holland & Barrett don’t collect any data about your medical history, you must interpret the significance of your results with caution. Be aware that medical conditions, medications, or other aspects of your health can affect your test results. These tests do not replace seeking medical advice and assessment, and if you have an abnormal test result, you should always seek appropriate advice from a trained health professional.
