Your privacy, guaranteed

Your privacy is our primary concern.

All we need from you is a quick cheek swab. This is inserted into our lab-on-a-chip DnaCartridge, which delivers a result direct to your smartphone in around 90 minutes. Your sample is then destroyed, maintaining full confidentiality.

Your data is never stored, sold on, rented out, or shared with third parties for financial advantage.

We work with Care Quality Commission-accredited labs and our test kits are all CE-marked.

Brought to you by DnaNudge, the Personalised Nutrition DNA Test is a genetic testing service which provides product recommendations suited to your DNA to promote a healthy lifestyle.

The Personalised Nutrition DNA Test and the DnaNudge app are for ages 11+. All product recommendations are intended as a guide only. If you use the DnaNudge app while shopping for children, please keep in mind that it is your responsibility as a parent or guardian to decide what food and drinks to buy for them.

When you use the DnaNudge app, you may see that some user's icons appear faded. This is because the app uses an 'age rule' and does not include the user when deciding about a product. For example, for users under the age of 18, alcohol, coffee, tea and protein supplements are not recommended. Therefore, their user profile will be greyed out when scanning in NudgeShare mode, meaning they will be excluded from any group recommendations.

First, you need to order online or purchase the test in a Holland & Barrett store. Then, you do your cheek swab at home or in store and return it via the pre-paid envelope. The DnaNudge lab team will then load your sample into a DnaCartridge to extract your DNA. The cartridge is then run through a DNA test and your results are sent to you via the DnaNudge app. You can then scan the barcode of products using the app to see whether they're recommended for you or not, based off your genetics. Using a traffic light colour system, you'll be nudged towards better products for your unique needs.

DnaNudge's nutrition database has over 500,000 products. They update all their databases regularly, so the number of products is growing all the time.

You can scan products in most major UK supermarkets including Waitrose, Marks & Spencer, Sainsbury, Tesco, Co-op, Morrisons and Asda. DnaNudge's UK-based nutrition database currently contains over half a million products, including many international brands; however, you'll be unable to scan products local to other countries outside the UK. However, the team is working daily to expand the number of products available to scan in the UK and worldwide.

The test panel identifies several single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) within genes which are associated with the propensity to develop chronic diseases like type 2 diabetes, obesity, high cholesterol and hypertension, and those associated with caffeine metabolism. Some companies test for more than this, but DnaNudge aims for quality, not quantity. More does not mean better; they only include genes which have high quality evidence behind them.

No, the personalised nutrition DNA test is not a diet. We won't restrict your eating behaviours and you'll still be able to eat the foods you love. The DnaNudge app will nudge your food choices and shopping behaviours to healthier alternatives tailored to you based on your DNA.

Our personalised nutrition DNA test looks at your genetic predispositions for nutrition-related health conditions and relates those predispositions back to different elements of the diet. Specifically, the test covers your predisposition for obesity, type 2 diabetes, high cholesterol and hypertension. For example, high salt intake is associated with obesity and type 2 diabetes. On your DNA report, the colours of the titles 'Salt' and 'Sugar' represent your risk of the respective conditions associated with those nutrients.

No, DnaNudge does not offer medical, dietetic or health advice. Their service is for information only and isn't an alternative to medical advice. You should speak to your GP or a healthcare professional before making any changes to your diet or personal care regime.

Each tile of the DNA report shows a trait based on multiple genes associated with an increased risk of common health conditions such as obesity, type 2 diabetes, high cholesterol and hypertension. DnaNudge then links these genes to different nutrients to help offer you better and more personalised dietary recommendations.
