FAQs

Problems with your thyroid gland can lead to tiredness, low mood and weight changes. Testing your thyroid hormones can give you insight into whether it’s working correctly.

Signs of a potential thyroid problem can include:

  • weight gain
  • weight loss
  • sweating
  • tremors (shaking)
  • difficulty concentrating
  • eye changes

'Normal' ranges are specific to you and your body. We'll let you know whether your results fall within a normal range or outside of it once we've processed your results, taking into account variables like your age and biological sex. If we notice anything that’s not quite normal, the doctors report will explain this and guide you to talk with your GP.

There’s no need to skip meals or prepare anything major before this test. If you take any medication, speak to your doctor beforehand, as some types of medicine can affect your thyroid function.

If you’ve had any recent X-rays or scans done with contrast dye, speak to your doctor too. The iodine in the dye can affect your results, so you may need to wait a while before testing.

Free T4 and TSH are the more commonly tested markers to rule out any abnormalities with your thyroid. However, there are some cases where you could have normal TSH and normal free T4 levels but still have an underactive thyroid because your T3 is low. Our advanced thyroid test also tests T3 levels as well as other thyroid-related markers.

Talk to your doctor before taking this test. Being pregnant can have a noticeable impact on your results, so make sure to check in with your GP first.
